View Full Version : JB Playlists

I'm trying to put together a JB playlist. Leiha suggested that I post these here.

I wanted a list that was sort of the opposite of the Mac playlist - just as Mac thinks she is the opposite of JB. And also, because of the references to JB exuding a sort of primitive aura, I went for some music that is sort of basic. Stravinsky's Rite of Spring is really important to me for that purpose. It is a brilliant piece of music, and very controversial, out-there music, in its day (and for a lot of people, still today).

One of the things that I love is how, by making a request for song suggestions on the board, I learned a whole lot about music I'd never heard before. Some people said that JB would be a classical music kind of guy, so there is some classical included here, opera selections, as well as a lot of other forms of music.

Here is the short list (13 songs):

1. The Rite of Spring: II. Harbingers of Spring 3:00 Stravinsky
2. Weapon of Choice 2:49 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
3. Joyride 5:30 Pieces Of A Dream
4. Mystery 3:56 Miles Davis
5. High Speed Chase 4:40 Miles Davis
6. The Way You Move 4:09 Kenny G featuring Earth, Wind & Fire

This is my current baseline playlist. It includes most of the recommendations folks made from the Board. It includes some Three Days Grace, an aria from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro (the one where the Count is pissed off and sings about how he's in charge), more of the Rite of Spring & some other classical pieces. It is about 4 hours of music. Great for a long drive. (or commuting in LA traffic).

5. The Rite of Spring: V. Games of the Rival Tribes 1:47 Stravinsky
6. The Rite of Spring: VI. Procession of the Wise Elder 0:39 Stravinsky
7. The Rite of Spring: VII. Adoration of the Earth (Wise Elder) 0:19 Stravinsky
8. The Rite of Spring: VIII. Dance of the Earth 1:06 Stravinsky
9. Bring Me to Life 4:43 Evanescence

After reading Darkfever and the teaser for Bloodfever, I feel like Mac is going to grow much more aware of how hateful and ruthless the world around her is...after listening to a few of my cds I feel like Mac will lean more towards ideas conveyed in rock music (the ruthlessness, hardcore facts, and rough situations that her surroundings put her through and force her to accept). So I compiled a list of contemporary rock that reminded me of things both JB and Mac are feeling or could be feeling, or situations relating to theirs...just some ideas! I'll add later if thats okay?

Prayer -Disturbed Breathe -Disturbed Numb -Disturbed
Believe -Disturbed Devour -Disturbed Want -Disturbed
Rise -Disturbed Stupify -Disturbed Conflict -Disturbed

Sweat Sacrifice -Evanescence Like You -Evanescence
Weight of the World -Evanescence Lose Control -Evanescence
Cloud Nine -Evanescence All that I'm living for -Evanescence
Snow White Queen -Evanescence

And, one I feel could be related to Faefever when it comes out (based on everyone's ideas of her and V'lane)...Good Enough by Evanescence" is perfect!: "Under your spell again/I can't say no to you/Crave my heart and it's bleeding in your hand/I can't say no to you/Shouldn't have let you torture me so sweetly/Now I can't let go of this dream"

This is beautiful:

I have never heard of Evanescence before asking for song suggestions from the board, and it was a great pleasure to be introduced to their music. I'll have to check these songs out. Thanks for the ideas.

Yikes! I forgot Yanni! Well, the list just got longer. Do you have a specific Yanni song that should to on the playlist?

Good to see you on the board - welcome back! The change was shocking wasn't it. My God. One minute I was blogging, and the next minute Leiha was kicking us all off. And then the new site was quite an adjustment.

I have 4 song suggestions I've been meaning to tell you about. (Hope they're not on your list yet).

1. Savin' Me by Nickelback
2. Pompeii by E.S. Posthumus
3. Requiem for a Dream (Clint Mansell)
4. O' Fortuna

Other ones which might fit are Come on Closer by Jem, and Gravity of Love by Enigma.

All are on my MySpace page if you've never heard of them. Anywho... just some ideas. ;)

These suggestions came from Beware of Italics under the song thread of the Message Board.

Hi, I'm new to the community but not KMMs novels.

If you had to recommned just (3) CD, which ones would they be?

Thanks:th_dj:

1. Mystery 3:56 Miles Davis
2. I've Got Papers On You 2:23 Pat Benatar
3. All Sons of B*****s 4:44 George Clinton & The P-Funk Allstars

Songs that make me think of DF & JB:

1. The Rite of Spring: II. Harbingers of Spring 3:00 Stravinsky
2. Animal I Have Become 3:51 Three Days Grace
3. Requiem in D Minor, K. 626: 3. Sequentia: Lacrimosa 3:17 Mozart

(on this one - be sure to read the comment from a viewer who said how angry the Count is - and how the singer needed to capture that anger. I confess that the anger of the character, the Count, trying to control the events around him and pissed because his servants defy him, is the reason I think this is a JB song. The Count is basically saying - I'm in charge - I'm not going to let anyone get in my way...)
