Which was First: The Dark Zone or Barron's Books on its edge?

I've been thinking lately as I just started to read BF. The Dark Zone has only been around for 5-7 years max. The areas were on the map that old.

I've always had the impression that JZB was in his bookstore and in that building for a lot longer than that.

So, doesn't it seem to be just a bit odd that the biggest Dark Zone in Dublin would form in just such a way that his presence would hold it at bay?

I really am wondering which came first: JZB where he is or the Dark Zone that he is holding back. If you dam a small river well enough, you get a giant lake. Is this one of those cases?

" A few years. You ?"
Barrons listed his address as a post office box in Galway...
And we know Barrons has rooms at the bookstore but, he doesn't LIVE there that we know of...Mac stays there. For safety. Because the property is warded.

Mac had left the maps in the room she rented at the Clarin House...and the inspector found them, questioning Mac how a map 7 years older to another one he was holding, lost blocks...city blocks & O'Duffy had checked city records...

Whatever JZB is, he's situating himself to stop the DARK ZONE from expanding. Keeping it at bay...For whatever reason he may have. And it is not expanding due to the fact that Jericho is there...Why ?
With JZB, he's never forthcoming with anything...

Ok. I thought that, too. But do you really think he is 31? "A few years" in what time frame? Fae time? That would be centuries!

People have addresses in multiple places. A post box doesn't mean the person lives in that city even. Maybe he just has one there and the one in Dublin hasn't been found or at least not associated with him.


And we know Barrons has rooms at the bookstore but, he doesn't LIVE there that we know of...Mac stays there. For safety. Because the property is warded.
The warding explains any tatts that Jericho has, but Mac doesn't know where he goes. It's a big place and she sure doesn't know where everything is. Remember the 3 floors below the Garage? What's beneath the shop then?

I'm not arguing that he is holding it back; I firmly believe he is. I just wonder if he is a magnet for it in some way. If by his presence, what would ordinarily be dispersed somehow collects and pools....

Okay I think that Barrons follows any kind of Fae activity. We know that Barrons is a very wealthy man and that he own various property, so far we know he owns the bookstore and the apartment/dorm where Alina stayed. We also know that he doesn't stay in the bookstore so he has another property somewhere in Dublin. The basement under the garage is where he keeps the OOPs Mac and him find. The Dark Zone surrounds the bookstore, and if you look on the map on the Sidhe Seer website they are spred across Dublin in various parts. So I think that Barrons was there first and that The Dark Zone came after. Cause Vlane said that the Seelie were keeping an eye on him because he needed to be watched why would the Unseelie not do the same? Whew hope that helps.

Classic chicken or egg question. You bring up a good point tho - V'lane says the Seelie were keeping an eye on him because he needed to be watched - WHY? is the question. Is it because he's trying to collect the OOPs? Is it because he's Unseelie? (Don't think so, but just throwing that out there). Is it because the Fae know he somehow can be/is involved in the whole thinning of the walls between fae and man?
For whatever reason the Seelie are watching him, the Unseelie may be doing so too, so wherever they are concentrating their forces, that may be where the Dark Zones are popping up.

I have to say that I do find it odd that the biggest Dark Zone is right there where JB's store can hold it at bay. What if he is only holding it at bay on one side, eventually if it is growing it has to go somewhere what about the other areas like where Mac first entered it in the fog in Darkfever. Will it eventually take over there or is JB somehow keeping it together.
