So, here it is already the middle of July, and I feel like the summer is just blowing by. So I wanted to stop for a minute and note some of my favorite things about this all too brief season, things like:
1. Big puffy white clouds in a brilliant blue sky
2. The smell of meat grilling on the BBQ
3. Sitting on a blanket in the grass, reading a book on a sunny, breezy afternoon
4. Dinner & Drinks with friends on an outdoor patio at dusk
5. Sand volleyball followed by margaritas
What about you, what do you enjoy about the summer?
Melonie, thanks for making me think of the good things, instead of just the heat & humidity. BTW - I used to live in Chicago, right in the city. Of course that was when I was young & single. Now don't think I could survive the winters! TN is about as far north as I want to go in winter.
Okay, summer: Being able to sit out on my deck in the morning with my coffee and enjoy the start of the day.
Barbeques, anywhere.
Free outdoor concerts.
Lots & lots & lots of stars at night.
Getting fresh vegetables from my garden.

Wow, both of your lists and:
My granddaughter and I playing in the sprinkler
The fireflies
Thunderstorms with no tornadoes
The smell and sight of lots of flowers

I love the fact that fall is around the corner.
I love yard work and flowers. (Jo, Lady's mantle is doing well. One remained green the others...well we shall see come spring)
I love DH's smoker grill going
I love LONG days
I love my oldest having the summer off

..No worries. Have a few newbies that should be ok to pack up this fall or EARLY spring !

I'm a simple person. The only thing I love about an Arizona summer is when it rains. The thick ugly rain clouds roll in and the temperture drops 20 degrees, when the rain finally hits the earth is gives it a nice clean dirt smell.

Honestly, when it ENDS.. in November. (The heat and humidity and mosquitoes are a bit much for me down here. Just ask Jenn. I complain about it all the time :65:).
But on a more positive note I guess it would be when my niece and nephew visit us. We only get them for about 6 days, but those 6 days are so much fun. (They live in Austin, 3 1/2 hours away). Mom and I spoil those kids like mad when they're here. Anything they wish for, they shall receive. :D

What I love about summer is the rain storms, I was driving home from my Grandfathers today with my mom and kids and the summer rain here in NY is just beautiful, you can see the edge of the front and the clouds just beyond it look like they have a silver lining. It is stunning. I also like to make smores with the kids that is fun.
Oh, Debbie I forgot about the fireflies!!!
Michelle, you are not simple minded - your brain is constantly going!!! How else could you come up with all those great questions of the day??

That's sweet of you to say! But I am a simple person all the way around. I love for not much more than to sit on my porch and just listen. It may be to the door slamming because the 6 yo. is trying to air condition the great outdoors, or the cardinal calling, or the wind wispering through the trees. We really do need to meet in person. Do you know where Fresh Market on Gunbarrel Rd. is? There is a place called Souper Salad that is decent. We should meet up there sometime! Better yet, come up for coffee!
I'm about 10 minutes away from Fresh Market, just east of Gunbarrel & E. Brainerd Rd. You name the time, I'll be there. I think we sound a lot alike, we both love the outdoor sounds, the quiet times, the little things that remind us we're alive and well.

Ahhh... summer!
"I love those wild, wild, wildwood days..." anyone know that song? Think Bruce Springstein! Summer around here is all about the infamous JERSEY SHORE baby!
after that my fave things about summer are:
-it's the easiest/lightest season for me at work
-days are longer, I don't have to go running til like 8pm and it's still light outside
-impropteu block parties
-outdoor Irish pubs
-sitting in my totally lit-up gazebo at night, sipping wine and enjoying a good book
-so much outdoor fun to be had:run, cycke, climb, paddle,row....
now can I tell you what I hate about summer? YARDWORK!!!! Blech! Thank god for landscapers, I can't tell a weed from shrubs that were intended to reside around my house!
