What actress do we get to play Mac when the movie comes out?

Leiha posted something, and I cannot find it for the life of me. It had a picture of an actress in a rainbow colored outfit. It was Leiha's nominee for the actress to play Mac.

My vote is for Victoria Beckham (former spice-girl 'Posh'). She has great legs! Great figure. Beautiful face. Straight blond hair, with the texture I imagine Mac to have. We can always outfit her with green contacts to cover up those brown eyes that she has.

She's about 10 years too old, and who knows what her acting skills are like? But I like her 'look.'

How about other nominees? I sort of like Kate Hudson for a sort of 'Mac' attitude - cute, sexy, innocent & smart at the same time, but I agree that she's probably too old for the part.

Maybe we should have to categories - who looks like Mac, and who should be drafted to play the role. ;-)

I'm stuck b/w Reese and Christine. I think they would both be good. I've seen more of Reese's work, and being from the South she'll have that aspect down pat. But I wonder if the whole time I'd be seeing "Reese Witherspoon" and not "Mac." Christine I've only see on Hey Dude and The Wedding Singer, but it isn't really fair to Reese for me to prefer Christine over her just b/c I've seen more of Reese's work. So it's a tie for me now. She'd definitely be fine for the BTC Mac, but I just... don't see her as too much of a 'strong' girl like the role requires. Don't get me wrong I think Hillary's got guts and she definitely moves over mountains to get what she wants (music, acting, cosmetics, etc, the world is not enough) but of all her past roles she's been comely girls who, yes, overcome huge obstacles, but doesn't really come out as edgy. I personally think of her (I know, don't judge a book by its cover... Can't help it sometimes, can we?) as a 'soft' actress... bubbly. She'd be perfect for BTC Mac, but not ATC Mac, IMHO.

I do not see Hilary, the girl from Heroes or any other teen pop idol out there for the role of Mac. Sorry, this is my opinion. And it has nothing to do with them personally. They all seem nice and they are talented and pretty, but in no way right for this role.

Reese seems to be the one choice around here and I respect it. I like her, but not for role for Mac. I still stand by my choice Scarlett Johansson.

Okay - I know the leading contender on this site to play Mac is Hayden Panatieer (or however you spell her name:03:), but I have to say at 17 I think she is entirely too young to play Mac. Mac is in her early twenties and Jericho is described as about 30 so IMO any actress under the age of 20 would be wrong for the part. And since everyone seems to think that Mac and Jericho get together at some point (though that is another point I don't really agree on) - it seems that we should be looking at actresses who would "fit" with the man who plays Jericho.

My mental image of Mac looks more like this...

While I really love Reese Witherspoon (I'm not ashamed to admit Sweet Home Alabama is one of my favorite movies) I don't think she's right for the part. Quite frankly, I can't imagine Reese killing all those Rhino boys like Mac does at the end of Darkfever. And without giving anything away about Bloodfever, there are things Mac does that I just can't see reese doing convincingly. My pick would be Scarlett Johansson too. I feel like she can do the superficial Mac, and really get into the dark Mac and play them both convincingly.

I'd have to agree that Mac would have to be an actress in her twenties or a young 30. Some of the young actresses mentioned i.e. Hayden Panettiere & Hilary Duff, haven't yet developed their own sexy confident attitude and would get eaten alive by V'Lane and Barrons. I just couldn't see them holding their own like Mac does. EXPECIALLY in that last scene in BF where Barrons and Mac totally get it on and the hormones are flying and the tension escalates and blood's boiling ... Whew... :drool-vi: Sorry I've started to sweat and now I’ve forgotten what I was going to say. Have to take a breather...

On the other hand, while some of the veteran actresses mentioned do have a better chance of pulling off both Barbie Doll Mac and petunia-kicking Mac i.e. Reese Witherspoon & Kate Beckingsale, I think the media's reaction to a more mature pick - and a large part of the public's, too - would be negative in the fact that the actress' true ages are widely known and they'd be labelled as trying to regain their youth/ needing a project desperately in taking on a role 1-2 decades younger than they actually are. Unfair yes, but the ugly truth in the eyes of the media. Mac has also described herself as "young and supple". A lot of these actresses, although in excellent shape, just don’t have that look anymore.

Lastly, from other characters' comments in the novels, we get that Mac is visually stunning as well as inherently sexy, not just pretty or cute.

That’s why I think Kristen Bell – don’t shoot me! – wouldn’t be a good enough Mac; she’s just too on the Plain Jane side for me and wouldn't realistically be able to attract the likes of Barrons, both O'Bannion brothers, V'lane, a MacKeltar, etc... In defense of Kristen looking plain jane...in a lot of her roles that she takes her character is plain jane, but it you doll her up she is gorgeous.

Some one said somewhere that because Mac stays brunette through most of the series that we should focus on dark beauties and not blondes. I think it is important to find someone who looks fantastic blonde therefore we share HER uneasiness about dying her hair. Mac IS a blonde. She dislikes the dark hair, it takes away from who she was. She has to make herself fit the dark hair. And I think it works if it is harder to see the dark hair on the actress because it fits the tone of book. If she doesn't feel, or look likes she feels, completely comfortable with dark hair when it gets dyed, WE shouldn't feel comfortable with her. It goes with the effect of first-person narration. We should feel as she feels.


Furthermore, with Kristen Bell, with the right clothes, hair, and makeup she is down right beautiful. You don't see it much on Veronica Mars because Veronica is not that type of girl. She is tomboyish in the series (well at least post-Lily's murder she is)

I personally feel Elisha or Scarlet are a little TOO sexy for Mac. I see more beauty queen/vixen than southern belle in them, and Mac is first and foremost a southern belle from a small town.

But then again I am tainted by my own visions in editing so I really shouldn't have any further say in it should I? LMAO ignore me. I am tainted by my own bias imagination!:03:

I have to agree with VP after seeing how VP portrays Kristen Bell in her siggies, I have come to see her as Mac, especially after the little video she put together.

Also as far as plain jane goes, hair and make up do wonders for an actress. Plain Janes can always be sexed up!

I put in a post earlier in this thread that Kristen Bell wouldn't be my first choice for Mac, and she still isn't my first choice. But I do love the way that VP brings Macs character to life in her siggy's. I love her interpretation of Mac, and many may see Mac that way as well. But Shewolfe, if your image is different that's Ok.

You know in another thread that we have for Barrons, most put up images of supermodels for Barrons, and personally that isn't what Barrons looks like at all in my minds eye. You know "The Rock" aka Dwayne Johnson? He is 6'4" and weighs 245 lbs, Jericho Barrons is 6'3" and 245 lbs, so Jericho is a ripped BIG BOY! not a slender 6' ripped supermodel. But it's fun getting to see everyone else's idea - and it's amazing to see that everyone's image is a little different. I think that is half the fun of Karen's stories and characters. They are unique and individual to each of us! :D

I totally agree with you Pyxie. I don't know the exact line but when Mac was talking about movies showing you something vs. books telling you something e.g. the Veela chick in Harry Potter, I was like, "She's totally right!"

I didn't say she couldn't play Mac, she definitely could, she's a great actress. But I was referring to her real personality and how it matched up with Mac's personality, that's all.

Yup I've seen her as Veronica Mars, I've kept up with show until it got cancelled. One of my favs. I was thrilled that she joined the cast of Heroes. But I never saw the old Veronica Mars as sheltered and naive, mainly because of her dad's profession. She was exposed to his work even before all that stuff happened to her.

I also think I'm against her being Mac because Matthew Fox, who plays Jack, would make a PERFECT Barrons - and he's Claire's half brother so it's weird ew. Ok, I did not read through all of the post but I think Sarah Michelle Geller aka Buffy the Vampire Slayer should play Mac. She def has the look and the attitude and she can kick some bad boy ass. I think Aly and AJ are too young but I also think Reese would be good. She can do the southern girl very well. I also think Clair Danes might work as well. Check out the film "Dreamland" (they air it occasionally on "Lifetime"), and you'll see what I'm talking about. LOL, Kelli Garner was in it too, and I also keep picturing her as Mac, but she's a little to hardcore for me. The films "Bully" and "Normal Adolescent Behavior" ruined her image for me as an innocent blonde, imo.

My problem, is that when I imagine Mac, I think of a relatively average height person, not to tall, very NOT intimidating, and someone who looks very young (like her age). Especially when Barrons takes her out to the first house party and Mac sticks out like a child playing dress up. The other thing, is I imagine her looking like someone who doesn't look like she could do any damage on the outside, but in the inside has "strong moral fiber" lol. So basically, for me, no tall actresses, no actresses that look too womanly, and preferably an actress that is pretty like Mac is but not necessarily a centerfold. Oh and of course, preferably an actress that can act lol.

So essentially, while I would loooove to see amazing actresses like Reese, J.Garner, Cameron Diaz play Mac because they have great acting skills, there is too much experience and years on their countenance, that I don't think I could believe the naive, innocent mac turn savage transition. :nah:

The only actress that I have slooooowly been able to believe can make that transition believable would have to be Kristen Bell, simply because she does look young, but as we see in Heroes, there is another side to her that she can pull off as well. Whether or not she can do a believable southern accent............I have no idea.

Hayden gets criticized for being "too young," but to those who say that, have you SEEN her lately? Definitely not a little girl anymore. But for me, she totally pulls off the young, naive Mac to a tee. The hard part for me was finding believable images of her to best represent "Dark Mac" (as I call her). I think I did a decent job in the slideshow of doing that.

Hayden just transitions so well between varying images and personalities and can be the girl next door one moment, then turn around and kick your ass. You know?

Seriously, I can't stand when books are made into movies. Is the book not good enough? You have to butcher it into a two hour movie that couldn't possibly do it justice, not to mention take out the imagination? Horrible.

Hey guys, new here, just posted over the faefever board who in my mind is Jericho Barrons, thought I would post here my ideal actress for Mac, she hasnt been around that long, pretty unknown for now, saw her on Pineapple Express and she did great for a small part, her name is Amber Heard, if you look her up in IMDB you will see her both blond and dark haired, you will even see her lounging in a pool in a bikini (classic mac) well tell me what you all think? She is 23 by the way. She would look great opposite Henry Cavill as Barrons no?

What about Isla Fisher? I know she's a red head, but I think she could pull off being a blonde and she looks like she's Macs age. I really liked her in Wedding Crashers and Hot Rod. I like Reese Witherspoon and all these other celebs that have been mentioned, but I've seen them way to many times, and would like to see someone a little less dominate in Hollywood play Mac. A fresh face would be nice to see.

I think that it is just speculation at this point. The rights were bought by New Regency Productions and 20th Century Fox Distribution, but so far nothing has been happening, or anything new has been announced.

I think I've said it on another thread, but I'll say it again . . . Kristen Bell is the only girl who could ever play Mac for me. I was watching the Veronica Mars boxsets when I started reading the first Fever book, and now whenever I read them, I hear her voice in my head narrating.

I could live with Katie Cassidy, only because she was on Supernatural, but I think she would be better suited to play Mac's sister in the flashbacks.

I think quite honestly that going with anyone who's already a big name for Mac's character would be a mistake. They should go with somebody that hasn't really been seen before on the big screen so it keeps it fresh. Barron's would be the better choice for putting in a famous star because he's in my opinion the biggest interest in the book. Wondering what he is and who's side he's on will keep you coming back for more every time. I myself side heavily with casting Gerard Butler as Barons. He's got that whole bad guy good guy thing going for him, and a really hot accent pre-included in the package.

Alright I've been thinking about this and I definately think that Jessica Stroup is PERFECT for mac. She looks good with blonde or dark hair and she's not such a HUGE actress that it will take away from the role. Thoughts?

I like! Have you seen Sophia Myles in Moonlight? She could play a good Mac too. I like the girl in the music video for Mac but I didn't like her in Hero's. It may have been her carater I didn't like. I have to see them in action before I can picture them as Mac. Who ever it is has to have both the lovable and witch side.
