View Full Version : Shadow beings...not just made up?

I found this on another forum while going through the paranormal section.
From wiki:
Shadow people (also known as shadow men, shadow folk, or shadow beings) are said to be shadow like creatures of supernatural origin that appear as dark forms in the peripheries of people's vision and disintegrate, or move between walls, when noticed.[1]
Reports of shadow people are similar to ghost sightings, but differ in that shadow people are not reported as having human features, wearing modern/period clothing, or attempting to communicate. Witnesses also do not report the same feelings of being in the presence of something that 'was once human'. Some individuals have described being menaced, chased, or attacked by shadow people. There have also been reports of shadow people appearing in front of witnesses, of which they stay there or lingering for several seconds before disappearing. Witnesses report that encounters are typically accompanied by a feeling of dread.[1][2]
Here's the rest of it Shadow people/beings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_people).
Here's the link to the thread I originally found out about it, as well as what people have said in terms of personal experiences. Shadow people thread (http://mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=161602).
It's interesting because it really makes you wonder how much of mythology is real and how much of what you're reading from a fictional story is based off of research and pure imagination. Did KMM add the shades in based off of something she learned or read about? or was it pulled from her imagination? If it's pulled purely from her imagination, it makes me wonder if maybe back in her subconcious or ours as human beings we once knew stuff like this really existed. Once upon a time, back in another life...
I don't know...just a thought. :)
That's a pretty cool series of links Anny. It's sortof fun to think of all that - it makes Mac's world seem that much more real.
Most of what Karen is writing about can be cross referenced in a number of folklore tales of these civilizations : Celtic/Baltic/Latvian .
Beserkers are of Baltic/Latvian/Basque culture & these warriors are cluster with two other Immortal warriors of strength, shape-sifters & vilkacis= wolflike, were not evil, retains human conscience & cursed/damned by magic...
Mostly all of Ireland's inhabitants, at the beginning of civilization are recorded & can be noted in actual history.
The founding races/humans to inhabit Ireland from its beginning :
1. Formorians
2. Tuathe De
3. Fir Bolg
4. Nemedians
5. Milesians
1 & 2 were the only groups of fae & the Formorians settled in Ireland 1 or 2 centuries before the Tuatha
3, 4, 5 were the only groups of humans on Ireland
2, 3, 4, 5 all spoke 1 language, that being Tuatha De
1 was the only group to speak their own distinctive language.
Tuathe De settled above on an Island while Formorians settled underground aka OTHERWORLD.
This and much, much more is actually documented Celtic folklore with actual historical figures in them. Gods that actually lived, fought, had children & died.
So who's to say that a SHADE cannot exist ?!!! Surely, YOU won't hear that from THESE lips...:51:

interesting stuff. the paranormal has always held my interest. not to sound like a weirdo but i used to "see" stuff when i was really really young - around two or three - some strange man was in a tree once, and when i was at my mom's friends house i could see small "people" through the crack in a door. it was always at that particular house and no where else though.
maybe i was just a kid with a wild imagination but i could still describe those things to this day lol
the shades sorta freaked me out a bit, but at the same time i liked the idea of the "guard dog" status. funniest thing is we used to have a street light that lit up the property but had it taken down last summer because it was an extra $8 to keep it on every month. now i kinda wish we had kept it! but then again we have the new bonus of actually seeing the stars at night.

I think "imagination" is a highly misused word myself. :03:

:) I knew all of the above that's why I got so hooked on Karen's books.
But the shade thing never crossed my mind because I never heard of it outside of her books until I came across it on another forum.
Hey, I wonder if we can have a paranormal section. I'd love to hear other people's stories.

Hey, I wonder if we can have a paranormal section. I'd love to hear other people's stories.
Be careful what you wish for. :p My websites are filled with paranormal experiences: past life dreams, dream visitations, spirits, evp's, etc. And believe it or not, that's not including my family's stories! :03: Of course, this stuff doesn't happen on a daily basis. It's just spread over time, and most of the time the understanding of these things sort of just... click... a while after they've happened. I'm slowly learning to stop analyzing things into the ground so much and to just accept them for what they are. Also to accept that some mysteries aren't meant to be solved. I think some are even too huge for us to wrap our little minds around.
If you - or anyone here - ever want to talk paranormal, feel free to PM me. I love it, and I've become very open-minded to all this stuff. (In my family you sort of have no choice). I'm also very grounded with it. I always look for the "logical" explanation first. Can't help myself.

i used to work for a woman as her nanny and at her front door you could see someone walking across the doorway out of the corner of your eye. i was not the only one who could see it. it was a tall shadow of a man with a headress like a pharoh or something similar. i happened to glance up once just as it was passing. it used to freak me out.

There is a bit of something a bit different about my family and myself. I think that everyone has some experience with this kind of thing. It may just be your animals looking off into the distance like they see someone or something. I do believe this is why KMM books are so interesting. As many times as people dismiss the strange things that happen we are still just curious wondering if there could be something true about it. Historians always say that there is a grain of truth to every story, be it Tuathe de, Formorians or other myths.
The shades give me the chills! I think that the shades might be more than just carnivorous creatures that JB says they are.

my grandparents house was noted to be haunted by the previous owner. my grandad swore the old man would come back to check on his house from time to time. and no .. no one died in this house.
but even to this day if you think you might try "sleeping in" you will wake up to the smell of breakfast cooking... bacon, eggs, coffee, biscuits, etc... you will wonder which one of your lazy relatives decided to cook.. walk into the kitchen only to discover it cold and not a scrap of food to be found except for what was left in the pet's dish.
and speaking of pets.. their cat would sit in your lap in the evening, eyes closed, kneeding your lap - she was declawed so she could get away with it - then she would suddenly look up over your shoulder and follow something across the room, then she would sit up and follow this invisible thing down the hall way.
and then there was the time i got locked in my bedroom at this house when no one was home. they had hooks on the outsides of the doors - good thing i used to watch a lot of Macgyver otherwise i would have waited for three hours until my grandparents came back home to let me out! i had a pocket knife i used to wedge between the door and the door jam to lift the hook..
i've also lived in a couty/town that would give me(and others) the creeps.. especially at night. i wouldnt be surprised to find out if there was some sort of satanic cult or hellmouth hidden some where in that area!!

wow, now that's spooky.
I don't think I'd be able to sleep a wink in that house.

One of my Aunt's house was haunted. There are a couple of reasons we know... the back door would open up by itself to let the cats in and out (saw this myself), also there would be the sound of a picture breaking on the upstairs landing, but when you got up there, the pictures were all fine.
Definitely freaky.

My childhood home was a little scary like that. It was one of those houses where, no matter how many window blinds you opened, the house was still so dark. We always felt like we were being watched, too, but I now think there might have been a logical explanation for that. Our house was next to a field of these huge power lines. Of course, that alone probably made it a hot spot for spirit activity. All I know is that I'm glad we no longer live there.
One of my grandmothers' houses was definitely haunted, but she was a sweet spirit.

the railroad thing sent chills up my spine just now. i've heard about it on a paranormal tv show years ago.. how very sad!!
i'm a sucker for kids.... especially the ones that are now ghosts. a friend in another forum has the ghost of a little boy haunting her property. its an old old house and apparently the boy was buried out there ages ago.. but one particular night while my friend's hubby was away the family dog went absolutely bananas one night and refused to set foot in the kitchen. no amount of coaxing or persuading with treats would make him budge. and if his owner tried to lead him in the kitchen by his collar he would speed through, not stopping until he reached the door of the dining room or utility room. and when his owner finally got weirded out by it and went upstairs to go to bed the dog stood at the bedroom door growling and barking until she shut the door lol

What a cool thread! Has anyone seen the 'Ghost Hunters' show on Sci Fi? They take equipment in to see if they can pick up evidence of paranormal. I've seen shadow people caught on video during their investigations. Fascinating! They also use a thermal camera to pick up heat/energy that can't be seen with the naked eye, and recording devices to hear things that our ears don't pick up.
Recently they expanded their show outside the US to Scotland. Wow - what a different experience. There seemed to be paranormal energy around every corner! America seems so young in comparison. Scotland seems to have such a long history with old energy around things.
I love the paranormal and could talk about it all day! A well known psychic recently said that the veil between us and 'the other side' will become thinner in the next 10 years and more of us will be having psychic/spiritual experiences than ever before. Interesting stuff. Over all I have a good combo of healthy skepticism and a very open mind!

lol i tried.. i REALLY REALLY TRIED to give Ghost Hunter a chance.... but i just cant. my husband and i walked into the house while my mom was watching an episode.. we tore it to pieces.... i mean for a second it seemed real, but we have a DVR and can rewind, pause and slow-motion things... we saw feet on the ghost lol even with shadows all around... looked like Nike brand too.
after that i just cant trust tv "documentaries" that claim to be real. but i looooooove the paranormal stuff.. but dont trust humans to be truthful and not try to apply smoke and mirrors just the get ratings..

o.o Wow, I can't even tell you what a shock it was for me to see this thread. You see, back in middle school I saw a shadow being, but it's been so long that I had kind of discounted the experience to my overactive imagination. When I read Darkfever, I found it really creepy that the shades seemed so much like the thing I had seen back then, but again, I just considered it coincidence. But seeing this thread and all of the research behind it has made me wonder. It happened like this:
I was in my science class back in 7th grade (about 6 years ago or so) and my friend was standing at the front of the class giving some sort of presentation. At some point during her speech, I noticed a dark figure rise up behind her. It's been so long that I can't recall it as clearly as I once could, but there are some things I'll never forget about it. For one, it was very tall, at least 8 or 9 feet. It was dark, but it was so hazy that I wouldn't say it was pitch black. The edges were blurred and it did have a "tendril" look around it's silhouette, so that it was constantly redefining it's outline, but it's overall shape was that of a cloaked "person." Oh, and it's movements were very slow, save for when it appeared and left, each time it seemed to take me by surprise. Also, it wasn't in my peripheral, I stared straight at it the entire time, since I was looking at the person it was around when it appeared. Maybe this is why it wasn't so pitch black? There were no facial features, and not even the red eyes that were noted in some of the other accounts. Then it's outline started to raise where a person's arms would be, but the "arms" weren't like tendrils, they were large masses (think of someone wearing a garment with large kimono or bell sleeves), and it started to move them in an arcing motion, as if it was going to envelope my friend. Time has dulled the emotional impact of the scene, and it might have once been so strong that I felt dread when I saw it, but I definitely remember sensing that it meant to do her harm. Then she finished her speech, the class clapped, and as she started to walk back to her seat, I noticed it was gone.
Like I said, it happened a long time ago, and I wish I remembered more of what happened and the conversation I had with my friend once she sat down, but I had almost convinced myself it hadn't happened at all. Thank you for posting this topic! I'm glad to know that there are records of such similar occurrences.

Me too! I love that show and I love it even more now that they've expanded to Europe. The veil thing your talking about I can believe because I'm a member of another forum that consist of mainly people who are gifted or have learn to hone their gifts, people of all religions but mostly those who practice older beliefs. I've been having strange dreams lately, probably the past year or so and it seems I'm not the only one because several people on that forum have had similar dreams. We think there might be something going on, a change of some sort. I've never believe in end of the world prophecies and I tend to be very skeptical about things, even after experiencing them but the whole world ending in 2012 thing is starting to freak me out a little. It seems that there are have been more frequent sightings of "mythical" creatures and beings too.

Ghost Hunter isn't actually a documentary, it's sort of a reality type show. What you might see could be reflections from something else, or it can be video scenese accidently overlapping each other, it happens during the editing process sometimes. :) Who said ghost can't wear nike's? There are modern day ghosts. hehe If things are being faked it's not the investigation crew that's doing it, probably the show's producer because the crew (TAPS) have been doing 'ghost hunting' way before the show even came into conception and they've never charge their clients.
If you want to see hokey, try watching Paranormal State, I tried so hard to watch that show but it was just too played up and rehearsed.

Wow if I saw that I'd be screaming or tackling down my friend so she wouldn't get captured. Did anyone else in the class see it?
What you described reminds me of something I saw on the news. It happened in Texas not so long ago and I saw the video linked or story link on MSN. Apparently many people in that neighbhor has seen this thing but it didn't really make news until a man came out with it to reporters, he even dream a picture of it. They speculated and assumed it was a large birth, kind of like the native american thunder bird. The man said it was jet black and had red eyes, it's face looked like the face of person if it were elongated and stretched out vertically. Everyone assumed it was some sort of giant bird.
He said the creature looked at him like it wanted to eat him and when it expanded its wings, looking like it was ready to pounce on him he can hear the flapping, like the way sheets sound when they're hung out to dry and flap in the wind. The way he described everything and the picture he drew made me think it wasn't a bird but maybe a human-like creature, kind of like what you described. He was looking right at it, the creature was just standing there looking right back at him. Gives me chills just thinking about something like that.

Well, if anyone else in the class saw it, word never got around to me. It was strange because my friend didn't even sense it, and she's usually much more sensitive than I am. I wish I remembered more =/ I'll try and drop her a message asking if she remembers anything from it.
Whoa, did I mention that I'm from Texas and that my story happened while I was still living there? Creepy! But I never heard of the man with the shadow creature, how recent was it? I tried to do a quick Google search, but I didn't come up with anything.

Pretty recent, it made local news but I'll try to see if I can find the link for you.
It wasn't a shadow being per se, the man and other people assumed it was some sort of giant bird. To me, from his description and drawing it looked like a dark cloaked being.
Here's the link to the news story. It's a video, shows the guy's drawings of what he saw. http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1243777173?bclid=1250621426&bctid=1312351284
