Why is it that Mac had never seen a fae, I mean Gabby's life was pretty boring, but yet she saw fae all the time, so fae were and are in the US, so why is it that Mac and Alina never saw them, for some reason it still doesn't make sense, i mean Ashford being boring isn't enough, and they visted Atlanta once and that would proubly have Fae in it.

Gabby lived in a big city, IIRC, and Mac didn't. She lived in a small Georgia town that the Fae weren't interested in. They like big thriving cities where they can meet as many humans as possible and fludge them up (literally).

If you notice Mac also doesn't have her full power even in the second book.

Right!! Maybe it was even laying dormant. I mean, if she did shopping trips to Atlanta, you'd think her & Alina would've seen a Fae. Either they were just way too distracted by shopping and never spotted them, or her powers weren't up to snuff.

mac and alina had the ability to see the fae when they were out but...they weren't looking for the fae. The only reason mac saw the first fae was b/c she was staring @ him b/c something wasn't right with him. if she is @ a mall shopping with her friends/family she isn't focused on strangers like she was in the pub. gabby's whole family talked about them b/c it was apart of their daily life which is why she could see them @ 3yrs.old...i think

Exactly. Gabby was trained from a young age to look out for them, and for herself. Mac wasn't. When she was out shopping or whatever, she was most likely with friends or Alina. And Alina was certainly not focussing on them, because she didn't know about them either. I think. We might find out she knew in her journals.

I think also maybe she wouldn't have noticed the fae of the Seelie court as easily as the Unseelie. The Unseelie stand out more as they resemble monsters once she sees through their glamour. And originally all the Unseelie were not able to come and go out of their "realm" like the Seelie could until Daroc started letting the Hunters out and the various other forms of Unseelie that Mac finds in Dublin.

Maybe, and if their powers were dormaint, do you think it could be because going to Ireland set them off.

I think their powers were not strong enough

I think that the 'Ireland' part has something to do with it. Remember, their dad admitted that there were a lot of conditions of the adoption, two of which were move to a really small town, and no trips to Ireland. Since neither girl had the training that Gabby had from the time she was an infant, they didn't know what to look for. Proximity may have been the catalyst in both cases. Didn't JBZ tell Mac that her reaction was due to her latent abilities trying to warn her?:33:

That's true they were not suppose to go to Ireland.

just subscribed to this bbs and reading some threads. love kmm's books, btw. i think i've read most of them.
as per mac not seeing any fae in ashford. it seems very possible to me that the fae really weren't in that town. even gabby, in immortal says:

chapter 1: '... god, there were just too many of them this summer! she hadn't spotted a fairy in cincinnati for years, but now, for some bizarre reason, there were oodles of them.'

...they were drawn to Cincinnati because they knew that ADAM was there! They also knew that he couldn't see or hear them because of QA's curse. They were enjoying Adam's lack of Fae powers.

welcome to the forum Chatz!!
and yes they were there because of Adam but she had still seen them over the years, remember? for some reason ... we do not know why there was such a large gap between sightings.
i wonder if that might be a significant clue in the next books? hmm?? hmm!?

I can believe it. I live in a very small & yes, boring town. Our graduating classes here are very lucky if they reach 100. If she's from a place like this then I'm sure she'd never have seen the fae there, cause there's not much here. But that's why I love it here, nice & quiet. Plus, our trips to "town" aren't very frequent & when I go I'm usually too busy with what I need to get done that I'm not paying attention to much else. (did this even as a teenager)I've even walked past friends of mine & don't notice until they stopped me. ha ha
