Graphics Confusion/Help Needed

I'm hoping that I have posted this in the right place because I didn't see an Art/Graphics type section. This may get confusing but I hope I describe the problem so someone with graphic knowledge will understand ;p

I made my avatar using Photoshop 7. I made it 100x100 pixels and uploaded it and found that it was blurry. I went back to photoshop and found out it was over the 19kb or whatever the standard is. To bring the kb down I had to make it 83x83 or something like that. I upload that, and it's blurry too.
I went back to photoshop, tried muting the colors, using a filter to soften the image, but nothing really brought the kb down except downing the pixels, but it's still blurry!
Compared to the way the avi looks in PS7, mine here looks like a let-down.

Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Welcome to the board Herlivingheart! I can't answer your question but if you click the groups link in the navbar there is a group called Shop Talk and that's our photoshop section. Once you get in there there's a forum. I hope that you join us there. You shouldn't need to re-post, hopefully someone can answer your question here. I just wanted to let you know about that section.

What format is the image? Is it in .jpg or .gif format? Sometimes saving it as a .gif format can shrink down the image size as it reduces the colors to 256 or less. You shouldn't need to change the image size to reach the file limit but just adjust your settings on what you are saving it to.

If you like you could send it to me too and I can try to reduce the size for you. LMK :)
