Default Is It Just Me?

OK, while awaiting ShadowFever, I have begun rereading the Highlander series.

Dark has always been my favorite, I guess for the way it was written and the characters involved.

My favorite part is in the airplane on the way to Scotland.... I mean, full on hot flashes with that one. Whuh, as Karen would say.

What is YOUR favorite part from Dark?

Wait, Lisa's tall?! You mean Karen actually wrote a tall heroine? I need to get that book! LOL I can relate at least in part to Gwen, Jessi, Gabby, Jane, and Adrienne, but sadly, I can't stand Chloe. And they're all short!

Let's see, well, crap, we're no longer mid 30's, we're not even late 30's for all that much longer (although I'm still a year younger than Dageus is now....hmmm....) Red hair, copper eyes, tall (but not nearly tall enough!), halfway decent figure (and did I ever LOVE Drustan's take on Gwen's potbelly....) Sigh. No one ever writes characters like me either.

The whole 24 year old heroine thing drives me batty though. I married the first time at 23, and I know just exactly how stupid a move that was. And at that age, I WAS a brainiac and should have known better!

Oh come on, what do you have against Chloe?? (Is it because she's living happily ever after with Dageus?)

LOL--believe it or not, that's not the issue. A friend and I hit on it at the same time (while she was reading the books). C is just the weakest of the female characters. She often comes across as whiny, and she's just not as believable. I didn't like her long before I fell for Dageus (thankfully!) since I read the books out of order. Met them both in Spell.

I adore Gwen in spite of some plausibility issues because she has a utterly wicked sense of humor. Gabby's the most believable and best written. Jessi is the feistiest and probably the toughest in my book. I would have been happier with any of them; which is why Dark doesn't come in first for me, Dageus or not.

Spell -> IH -> then Dark for me in order of preference. Sorry, D.

Oh, I liked her. I thought she was funny. I loved the "I'll just pretend I'm a French maid" routine she did (with hiccups!) I know you don't like audiobooks but that whole scene was great on audio: Phil, as Chloe, with a French accent, and hiccups! It was hilarious! And she was a fierce defender of artifacts (including Dageus.)

It's always a little weird to me to find myself disliking a character. It just doesn't happen that often. A lot of times, since I do a fair amount of rereading, I'll go back and eventually find things I like about them. So far, it just hasn't happened, and I've tried. I want to like her and I just can't.

(But that scene is pretty damn funny. )

The reverse happens sometimes too: One non KMM book I read years ago threw me for a serious loop. You started out from the viewpoint of a girl who ultimately becomes the main villain. Even as thoroughly twisted as she became, I never stopped caring about her, fretting over her, and hoping she'd revert because I became so attached in the first part of the book. Even after she was killed off, I kept hoping something good about her would be revealed later!

I haven't a care for most of the females in the Highlander books, I mean, get real girls! Though, if I had to pick just one, I would say Gwen, she seemed the most level headed.

None of the main men would last in my life, they would be a good roll in the hay, but as permenent partners? Nah, too much self centered testosterone for the bunch of them.

Now Christian, on the other hand, has juuuust the right touch of ego, looks, intelligence and earthyness about him...... (am I drooling again? Dang!)

Put me and Christian on a plane to Scotland? Oh, yeah, we'll cause turbulence....

I cannot tell you how much I love hearing this. Christian doesn't have NEARLY enough fans yet. That damn man-thing and the faery pretty boy get all the attention.

Hmm....I hadn't really thought about the fact that Christian really does have less ego than any of his kin. I need to do some rereading in that context, that actually kind of fits with a theory I've been working on.....

If I were given the choice, I'd agree completely with you. However, I wasn't given a choice at all. Dageus showed up in my head and never left. I've tried to shake him, tried to leave him behind in Ireland (that was pointless, I should have known better), tried to ignore him, and tried to replace him with others--plenty of lovely fictional hunks out there, and besides, my love life isn't lacking. He's not a necessity around here, no matter what he thinks! LOL But he's not interested in going away. I wouldn't have chosen him deliberately (probably would've been Cian up until DrF), but for whatever reason, he took up residence in my psyche last summer and after almost 7 months of this, I'm just used to it. Mostly.

Come to think on it, he's a lot like my husband that way. I spent years trying to get him to go away too. Went off, married someone else--dumb move, that--stayed way the heck away from anywhere he'd find me. When I let him back into my life, I did so knowing full well that if I did, it was game over--there would never be anyone else. He's not going anywhere either.

Damn stubborn Highlanders. I can vouch that Karen got that part right!

His face, chisled perfection. Manly features. Beautiful if you could call HIM such. Checkbones high and defined. Straight nose.
Lips light rose in no way could one call feminine. The lower fleshier than the top. The kind of lips you'd like to taste. With your tongue. To see if they were as heavenly as you thought. The kind you'd want to suck on for an afternoon. To hear the moans released between lips such as his. By licking until it drove him mad. Or you. So you do.
Brows black and slightly arched. Accentuating eyes of golden amber. Intense eyes. Windows of the soul they say. But these held a promise of wickedness. Delights. Exotic. Forbidden. Erotic. Like the apple you don't want to take a bite out of. But you do. Without hesitation. Anyway. Hell be damned. Or you will be. Sizzling. Begging for it. Sin. Without a doubt. And wanting to.
Hair so long it skims his waist. Black. Shiney. Thick. Silk. The kind that makes your fingers itch with a longing to bury themselves into. Run your fingers through. So you do. Right then and there. Grabbing fistfulls of silk in the middle of an ecstacy so wonderous it makes you gasp for breath instead of screaming that you surrender !
The pulse beat strong along the lines of his throat in perfect union to his heartbeat. The heart you wanted to feel pressed into your own chest. Echo the beat it pumps. So you do. Unclothed. Together. Breast to chest. Warmth. Heat. Muscled wall encasing you. Burning. Sizzling. Within the arms of a warrior. Yet for all that strength there is a tenderness. One that compells him to gently brush a stray lock of your hair caught on your eyelashes.
Back and forth with erotic intent he grinds himself into you. No one man should ever possess what he makes you realize is his erection. The size of which you've never felt before. In this lifetime. Or the next. Ten. You feel the wetness between your own legs. And you want. You'll even beg. For it. From him. And you do. Out of breath. On the top of your lungs. That you want. All. Of him. Hot and demanding. Now.
Your hands reach around to grab his perfectly round, hard *ss in your hands. To stop him from retreating. Not stopping him as you should. You want him to grind, to torture...to take you. Right to heaven. Right now.
He heard while his mouth descends upon yours and he takes each breath, slips his tongue inside and devours you whole. From the inside out. And you let him. Now.
Penetrate, retreat. Penetrate retreat and you feel one of his large, warm, masculine hands in between your...RRRiiinnnnggg...rrinnngg ...between your wet...."Good morning !
Good Morning ! Good Morning!
It's 6:00am WKRP....On this fine Monday Morning".
Blah blah blah....CRAP ! Sh*T ! Isn't THAT the way your dreams end too ?!!
